Rita Fuller-Yates is a local Black Historian, Author, Professor, and Entrepreneur from Columbus, Ohio. She is working to establish black history tours nationwide, one city at a time, to create a voice for all cultures to learn the value of local black history, including the black community.
She believes people are disinterested in learning black history based on how it was narrated in the past and who was selected to share the story. As an educator, she recognized the need to create a storytelling business that helped to share factual history while removing the stigma of boredom often experienced when learning black history.
Fuller-Yates has traveled the globe to speak to countless young people and to share the importance of knowing their local black history and DNA. She uses research and past stories to support the incorrect notion that all black people come from slavery and to change the narrative of how black history is taught.
“We are more than slaves,” Fuller-Yates explains. “We are Doctors, Lawyers, Business owners, and Community Leaders."
“It’s our time to take back our narrative and tell our stories. We understand why it was done in the past, but now it’s our turn.” Said Fuller-Yates.
Rita Fuller-Yates has expanded her tours to Savannah, GA in 2023, and plans to travel to other cities soon. She facilitates several Black History Pages on Facebook for different cities, including Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, New York, and Savannah as well as Los Angeles California.
She hopes to give voice to the black community and share the black story nationwide.
Join Rita Fuller-Yates on one of her many tours and help preserve our rich Black history for future generations.
Savannah has a rich black history dating back to before it was a state. A history that many do not know, understand, or appreciate.
The Savannah Black History Tours takes us on a journey to discover their history, from before the dark generations of Slavery to the brutal evidence of freedom and the success that arrived through segregation. The tours share different stories to help explain the importance of knowing Savannah’s Black History but, more importantly, the value of celebrating the success of Savannah’s black communities and its leaders and what came from being enslaved.
The tour takes each rider to twenty sites, including video, music, engagement, and celebration. Each tour is ninety minutes long, and the shuttle bus accommodates twelve people during one ride. During the tour, each participant can expect to see sights of churches, libraries, town squares, black communities, schools, parks, and many more.
Join us today and bring a friend with you to experience the journey. We would love to meet you!
